Regulatory Oversight

The oil industry is one of California’s and the United States’ most heavily-regulated industries. Oil pipelines operate under many layers of protection. Federal and state laws, rules and regulations, regulators and operators all work to keep pipelines safe.

In California, Crimson’s operations are overseen by the:

  • California Public Utilities Commission
  • California State Fire Marshal
  • California Department of Fish and Wildlife
  • U.S. Department of Transportation—Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration
  • South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD)
  • Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (Ventura APCD)

Rules and regulations cover everything from control room management to 3rd party damage prevention programs and tracking incident causes to inspection of pipelines.
